Leicester City’s Under-19s face FC Copenhagen at Loughborough University in their third UEFA Youth League group stage fixture on Tuesday (1pm kick-off).

The young Foxes have so far been narrowly beaten 2-1 by Club Brugge in Bruges, before a 2-0 loss to FC Porto came at Loughborough University in late September.

The fixture against Copenhagen could not only see City close the gap on second-placed Club Brugge in Group G, but it will also provide the Club’s youngsters with an experience of what it is like to face a well-drilled youth side.

Beaglehole said: “We’ve played Club Brugge and Porto so far and I think with my experience at Northern Ireland of playing Scandinavian teams, Copenhagen will be very well organised.

“I’d expect them to be very passionate and they will have some very strong athletes. If they’re going to get through the group, they’ll want to get some points on the board. They’ve got one point out of six so far, so they’ll be quite eager to win.

“We’re improving and we’ll be getting one or two players back from injury, so we’ll be able to field a strong side on Tuesday.

“We played very well in the second half against Brugge and Porto were very difficult to play against, so we can take a lot from both of those games and our players will learn from that experience.”

The Under-19s feature a blend of players from the Under-18s and Development Squad, who both compete in a regular games programme.

While the Under-18s contest the U18 Premier League, the Development Squad are this season competing in Premier League 2, the Premier League Cup, Premier League International Cup and Checkatrade Trophy.

“What is challenging at the moment is the amount of games that we’re playing,” added Beaglehole. “The Under-23s are playing in some fantastic competitions and then you combine that with the Under-18s playing every Saturday.

“The Under-23s will have played against Wolfsburg in the Premier League International Cup and Chelsea in the league and a number of those will be involved against Copenhagen.

“The match experience that our players have now is phenomenal. There’s nothing like playing 11 vs. 11 against really good opposition.”
