Danny Simpson heaped praised on his Leicester City team-mates after they made it three wins from three in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday evening.

The Foxes, having already beaten Club Brugge 3-0 and FC Porto 1-0, took on an FC Copenhagen side that were yet to lose this season.

But a battling performance on Filbert Way saw Claudio Ranieri’s outfit edge the Danish champions 1-0 thanks to Riyad Mahrez’s brilliant flick.

“We knew what they were about,” Simpson told LCFC TV after the game. “They play 4-4-2 and have the big lads up front. The whole team is full of big lads, but we wanted to get back to winning ways.

“We did that and that was the most important thing. It wasn’t the prettiest of games, but we got a win and that’s now nine points in the Champions League.

“We’ve not conceded either and I think that’s good going, especially in the Champions League. Kasper [Schmeichel] made an unbelievable save.

“The cross came in and I turned round and to be honest I was waiting for the ball to hit the back of the net. He’s a top class ‘keeper and it was a great save.

“The lads in front of him were trying to do our best to stop Copenhagen, but when we need him, he’ll make a save like that. It’s a great start for us.”

The clash with Copenhagen marked Simpson’s Champions League debut for the Club, and it was certainly a proud moment for the defender.

He added: “It was frustrating because I had a little problem and missed the first game, but that’s football. I’m just glad I finally got my game for Leicester in the Champions League.

“It’s what we worked hard for last season and it was nice hearing the music when I was in the line-up with the lads.”
