De Laet Wants To Maintain Momentum

Flying full back Ritchie De Laet has called on the Foxes to carry on their current run of form when they make the long trip to Yeovil Town on Tuesday night.

With just one defeat all season and four wins from their last five games, City are right alongside the early-season pacesetters, and another three points Sky Bet Championship points would maintain the momentum.

De Laet featured in City’s 2-1 win over Barnsley at King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon, and revealed that he is benefitting from playing in a settled defence following a run of four league games with the same starting XI.

“It’s good,” De Laet told following the Barnsley victory. “That’s what we did last season as well and we got a lot of clean sheets. That’s what we’re looking to do this season as well.

“It was disappointing for us as a back five to concede that goal [against Barnsley] because we have to keep clean sheets – it makes life a lot easier for the strikers because they’ve only got to score one.

“They [Barnsley] made it hard for us in the first half and parked the bus really. We just had to be patient, pass the ball and in the second half the goals came.

“We conceded one late on and made it hard for ourselves, and we were hanging on. We shouldn’t really be hanging on to games, we should be going forward and finishing games.”

Barnsley’s goal from nothing against City just goes to illustrate how competitive the Championship is, and despite the quick turnaround, De Laet is keen for the Foxes to do all they can to get the business done against Yeovil at Huish Park on Tuesday.

He added: “We’re at our best when we’re passing the ball around. We haven’t lost in four or five games now and we’re up there. We want to stay there and make sure we take this [form] into the next games. Then we can re-charge our batteries in the international break.

“But [in this league] if you switch off or you don’t concentrate for a split second then the opposition will get the ball in the box and score.”
