Pearson: A Good Day For Us

City manager Nigel Pearson has praised his side’s counter attacking qualities after watching them race three points clear at the top of the Sky Bet Championship with a 3-0 win over Millwall.

The Foxes were totally dominant at King Power Stadium against a team that had done the double over them in the previous two seasons – Lloyd Dyer and a Jamie Vardy brace sealing the three points.

Tied with Burnley and Queens Park Rangers for the title of league leaders going into the match, but after both of those teams fell to defeats away at Huddersfield Town and Doncaster Rovers respectively, City capitalised.

They now have 38 points from just 17 games going into Tuesday night’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday, and the manager needed no encouragement to lavish his players with some thoroughly deserved praise.

“I think we have been very good on the counter attack all season,” Pearson told Foxes Player at full-time. “I think when you’ve got pace in the side it always lends itself well to being effective, but of course you’ve got to defend well first.

“All in all this season so far we’ve managed to give teams we’ve played against a number of problems. We’ve been accused in the past of being a bit one dimensional, but this year we’ve added a few more problems for our opponents in the sense that we’re a good counter attacking side and we’ve managed the ball quite well this season.

“We have better depth in terms of our squad and what we can bring on to change the game. I think that’s good for us and it has been good so far. Hopefully throughout the season it will prove to be the case again.”

On the Club’s league position, the manager added: “I think it’s a real bonus for us the fact that we find ourselves at the top of the league.

“Before the game starts the biggest goal that we have is to win the game. As always we’ve got to make sure our performance is right and outside of that, what happens elsewhere adds to or takes away from our own day's work.

“It’s a good day for us, there’s no doubt about that. I’m really pleased for the players because they’ve worked exceptionally hard this season so far.

“We probably deserve to be where we are at the moment – on 38 points from 17 games. That’s a very good return and shows that the division is pretty tight at the top, but we’ve created a bit of a gap between ourselves and the play-off places.”
