City’s youngsters were narrowly beaten by Norwich City in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League on Saturday, after an entertaining encounter at Belvior Drive.
In a frenetic first half, Norwich went ahead through striker Rhys Browne after 11 minutes, but City responded well, and equalised just seven minutes later through striker Simonas Stankevicius.

Norwich regained the lead just four minutes later, midfielder Harrison Heath with the goal, and despite dominating the second period, Leicester couldn’t break through a resilient Canaries defence.

City ‘keeper Liam Sharpe saved Norwich substitute Jake Simpson’s penalty late-on, but the Canaries rarely threatened in the second-half and Leicester were unfortunate to go away empty handed.

In blustery conditions, the game came to life after just 11 minutes, when Norwich took the lead through striker Browne, who found himself in space on the edge of the 18-yard box, the forward turned smartly and fired a neat finish low into the bottom corner past Sharpe.

Leicester responded well to going a goal down, and were level just seven minutes later, Stankevicius with an impressive finish after left-back Ben Chilwell’s accurate delivery. Stankevicius powered past two Norwich defenders, and finished in clinical style with a low right-footed shot that flew past helpless Norwich ‘keeper Ben Killip.

But Norwich hit-back four minutes later, Heath finishing off a well-worked move from close range.

Browne found Ben Wyatt inside the area, and the left-back turned neatly, and picked out midfielder Heath, who made no mistake and finished neatly to give Norwich a 2-1 lead.

The Foxes started the second half brightly, and had a chance to equalise just two minutes after the break, when Kyle Bailey found Elliot Moore with an excellent delivery from a corner, but Moore could only head over from just inside the six-yard box.

City continued to dominate the second period, and had another golden chance to level the game after a lovely three-man move.

Substitute Dylan Casey found Eddy Samba with a lovely lofted ball, and Samba’s neat knock-down sent Danny Rowe through on goal, but the striker could only fire over from close range.

The Canaries were awarded a penalty in the 84th minute, after City centre-back Herve Pepe-Ngoma was adjudged to have fouled Michee Efete in the area. Norwich substitute Simpson stepped up to the spot, but Foxes ‘keeper Sharpe was equal to it, and saved low to the right-hand side.

Heath’s goal proved to be the winner and Norwich took victory, but Leicester can take pride in a spirited second-half display.

Next up for Leicester’s U18s is a trip to face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday 15 February.
