De Laet Braced For Rovers Test

City defender Ritchie De Laet says he is relishing his role in Leicester City’s astonishing unbeaten run ahead of a tough trip to Ewood Park on Saturday.
The Sky Bet Championship leaders haven’t lost in the league in 16 games, and De Laet’s energetic displays at right full-back have been a key component in a series of fluid attacking performances from the Foxes.

Blackburn Rovers are the next side to have a chance to end City’s run, but De Laet spoke of a strong desire within the squad to take another step towards the Premier League with victory.

The former Manchester United man has played in the top-flight before for the Red Devils and while on loan at Norwich City, and he is doing all he can to make sure he adds to that experience with Leicester next season.

“Of course it’s good that we’re still unbeaten and the run keeps going,” De Laet told Foxes Player. “Every game we win or draw, we get a step closer to where we want to be and it’s going well at the moment.

“It’s a great position we’ve put ourselves in, but we’re not there yet.

“We go into every game trying to win it and to get as many points as possible. We’ll see where that gets us. There are a lot of games but go, but it’s in our own hands and we have to do everything we can to win games.”

But in their way at the weekend stands a Blackburn side with serious promotion ambitions of their own, and De Laet is well aware of what is in store.

He added: “Blackburn is going to be a hard game, like every game is in the Championship.

“We saw Burnley go there a couple of weeks ago too and had a difficult game, and that’s what we expect it to be. It’ll be difficult, but our mindset is the same in that we’ll go there looking to win the game.

“We just have to look at our own game. We have two strikers in form in David Nugent and Jamie Vardy. We’ve got midfielders who can score goals too. It’s not just about one guy for them, it’s about stopping them as a unit and then to move forward ourselves.”

De Laet has certainly needed no invitation to move forward this season – a fact that was underlined by his brilliant individual goal in the 4-1 demolition of Derby County at King Power Stadium in January.

“That’s a thing that I like to do,” admitted the 25-yaer-old. “I like to go forward and attack, and we needed that on Saturday [against Blackpool] having gone 1-0 down.

“We need those options and I was an outlet for midfielders to pas the ball to, as well as Jeff Schlupp on the other side too. It’s one of those things that I, and I am sure Jeff too, enjoys doing.”
