Development Squad goalkeeper Adam Smith has joined Conference Premier outfit Cambridge United on loan until 22 May, 2014.
The 21-year-old shot stopper joins The Us ahead of their final league game of the season away to Gateshead, as well as a two-legged play-off semi-final later this month.

Richard Money’s side have sealed second spot in the league with one game left to play, meaning they will learn their opposition for the play-offs after the weekend’s fixtures.

A former Middlesbrough youngster, Smith joined the Foxes in 2011 as a second year scholar before penning a professional deal later that year and going on to feature heavily for Steve Beaglehole’s successful Under-21s side.

During his time with the Foxes, Smith has taken in loan spells at Chesterfield, Lincoln City and Nuneaton, as well as a spell with Graham Westley’s Stevenage earlier this term.

A commanding figure in goal, Smith was part of the group to win the prestigious Hong Kong Soccer 7s title last summer, and his impressive performances for the Under-21s this season have been key in securing a top-half finish in the Barclays U21 Premier League.
