City manager Nigel Pearson has confirmed Anthony Knockaert could be available for the first game of the Barclays Premier League 2014/15 season on Saturday.
The talented French winger limped off in the second half of Leicester’s pre-season 3-1 friendly win against Rotherham United earlier this month with an ankle problem.
It was initially thought that the former Guingamp man would be out for weeks rather than days, but Knockaert could be on the team sheet for the Everton clash.
Pearson said: “It is frustrating when you pick up one or two knocks in pre-season and they are for the most part that, it’s not as if we’ve got issues in terms of the loads that the players have been under.
“We've been a little bit unfortunate but as always my view on that is that if one player misses out someone else has got an opportunity.
“Anthony has trained fully so he’ll probably be available. As always things can change very quickly.”
Similar to Knockaert, Marc Albrighton also sustained a minor injury in pre-season, forced off in the 1-0 victory against Werder Bremen on Saturday.
Striker Jamie Vardy, who bagged 16 goals last season, is likely to miss out while Matt Upson remains a more long-term absentee.
Pearson added: “Marc Albrighton is close but may not make the weekend and Jamie Vardy's unlikely to be available.
"Matt (Upson) won't be available for a while; he's undergone an operation so he will be out for a while.
“I would rather go into the start of the season with everybody available but that’s not the case.
“However we shape up at the weekend we will have a side which is very capable of putting in a very good performance.”
