Development Squad full back Callum Elder was delighted to be back on the pitch after making a goalscoring return to action in Monday night’s Westerby Cup Winners’ Cup victory.
Steve Beaglehole’s Foxes lifted the trophy thanks to over Blaby and Whetstone Athletic at the Leicestershire & Rutland County FA’s Holmes Park, and for Elder, it was a satisfying first 45 minutes of the season.

He opened the scoring with a brilliant edge of the area drive that set the side on course for an excellent win, and afterwards, he revealed just how good it felt to play again.

The 19-year-old Australian youth international told Foxes Player: “It was great. I’m really happy with the result.

“I have faced quite a lengthy spell on the side-lines with my Achilles. I ended up having to have an injection in it, but touch wood it feels good now, and it was great to get a performance and win the cup.

“We knew we had to come out firing because it was a cup final and we knew they were really up for it so we set a really high tempo and got at them. We found their weaknesses – they play a high line – we utilised that by getting in behind. It was three good goals and I was happy to score myself.

“I thought I may have taken a first touch, but I saw the goalkeeper going towards the far post so I thought if I hit it first time I might get him off-balance. I sent it to the near post and got lucky.”

is a Barclays U21 Premier League clash with Fulham at King Power Stadium this coming Monday 15 September (KO 7pm).
