Pearson: We Didn't Take Our Chances

Nigel Pearson underlined the importance of taking chances after his Leicester City side were beaten 2-0 by Crystal Palace on a frustrating Barclays Premier League afternoon at Selhurst Park.
Goal line blocks cruelly denied both Jamie Vardy and David Nugent with the score at 0-0 before Fraizer Campbell and Mile Jedinak scored from set plays to claim all three points for the hosts.

The Foxes will look to bounce back when they tackle Burnley at King Power Stadium next weekend, where the manager will be hoping for a return to the kind of clinical performance seen against Manchester United last Sunday.

Speaking to Foxes Player after the full-time whistle, Pearson said: “They (set plays) are important in any division. The two goals came after a period in the first half when we were in the ascendency and had some chances but didn’t take them.

“Likewise in the second half we created a couple of promising situations but we’ve not really taken the chances when they’ve arisen, so that it disappointing because I think people’s expectations are always altered when you get big results.

“As far as I’m concerned, this was always going to be an important game and we started well enough, there’s no doubt, but unfortunately we weren’t to make the most of our chances when they came.

“When you’re chasing at 2-0 down and they’re defending deep, it’s always going to become more difficult to create really good chances through the middle of the pitch in particular.

“We didn’t play with the control in the second half as we have in previous games, but our players can reflect on games so far and say they’ve applied themselves pretty well.

“We’re not perfect. We know that we’re going to have games where things don’t go quite our way, but we know we’ve got to perform as well as we can. You’ve got to give them (Crystal Palace) some credit today as well.”
