Leicester City’s Academy players were treated to a special visit earlier this month when Fabrice Muamba came to Belvoir Drive.

The former Bolton Wanderers midfielder talked to the youngsters about life as a professional footballer and the difficulties he experienced in his career.
Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest at White Hart Lane while playing for Bolton against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup in March 2012.
Academy Director and recently appointed Director of Football Jon Rudkin commended Muamba’s visit and said: “Both the Under-21 and Under-18 groups had a wonderful opportunity through the PFA to spend some time on Friday 5 December with a player that we’re all aware of in Fabrice Muamba.
“Fabrice came to the Football Club and spoke to the players, not only about his most recent challenge in recovering from his heart issues, but also shared with the players his reflection on his development pathway and career.
“He explained how he developed as a young footballer at Arsenal and the challenges he had in progressing, coming through the ranks and aspiring for a first team position.
“He spoke about the up-and-down life of a young footballer in attaining their ultimate goal in being a regular first team player to going on loan. It was a really inspiring and thought-provoking morning in which many of our players asked him a number of questions about his career.
“Fabrice reinforced the message of focusing and working hard whereby talent will get you so far but the determination and energy to want to learn will maximise the chance of attaining your goals.
“It’s a fantastic initiative which is being supportive by the PFA and is something that should be really commended given a player of that stature has spent his time in coming out to speak with young footballers. On behalf of the Football Club, I would like to thank him for his time.”
