Moore: Respect The Cup

For Leicester City defender Liam Moore, this weekend's FA Cup tie at Tottenham Hotspur could be an important match as he looks to break back into the starting XI.
Wes Morgan and Marcin Wasilewski have forged a successful partnership at the heart of City’s backline in recent weeks, but having helped the team to an impressive clean sheet in the last round at home to Newcastle, Moore is keen to show what he can do again.

The Foxes face a tough test against Spurs, who had an extra mid-week game against Sheffield United in the Capital One Cup Semi-Finals, but there is plenty on motivation within the camp to cause an upset at White Hart Lane.

“The FA Cup is special,” Moore told Foxes Player. “A win could take us one step closer to the final so we’re going to go there and give the best account of ourselves as we can.

"We’ll give it a good go and hopefully give the fans something to cheer about. It’s a competition that we look to progress in, but the gaffer has made it no secret that the league is our main aim this season.

"We need to stay in this league, but while we are in the cup we’re going to respect it as best we can. I think it serves as a bit of a competition for places game as well.

"The gaffer made a few changes last time and a few lads did really well in a couple of starts after that. It’s something that the lads take seriously and if you’re not getting a game right now, it is a chance to get in there and show what you can do.

“It had been a while since I played before the Newcastle game [in the previous round]. I was looking forward to the game, found out I was playing on the Friday and just knew I had to go about my business well and give the manager something to think about.

“I had to show I am ready when the time comes. Hopefully I did that and hopefully I can try and do that again this weekend.”

Spurs last faced the Foxes in the Barclays Premier League on Boxing Day at King Power Stadium, and although the visitors ran out 2-1 winners, many felt it was the Foxes who were deserving of the three points.

“We can look at that game and take great confidence,” said Moore. “We were very unlucky in that game so we’ll go there and give ourselves the best chance. Hopefully we can give them something to think about for the league game, which is just around the corner.

“I saw their first hour or so against Sheffield United and they looked decent. But we’ve got to concentrate on our own game. It’s the same with any game; if we apply ourselves right then we can give ourselves a really good chance.”
