Albrighton: Start Strong

With Leicester City two games from Wembley in the FA Cup, Marc Albrighton is eager to begin on the front foot against Aston Villa in the fifth round on Sunday afternoon.
Both sides have secured a win each in their two league meetings this term, but with the Foxes keen to translate their performances into victories, Albrighton knows a positive start will be key to securing the result.

A graduate of Villa’s academy, Albrighton himself is desperate to help seal progress to the quarter-finals for City against his former team and in the process kick-start a winning run.

Last time out the Foxes were on the receiving end of a 2-1 defeat at Arsenal, but once again their performance drew plaudits from those who saw the game – a source of both encouragement and frustration for the team.

“I think there’s a lot of positives we can take out of it like the effort and the character we showed not to give in,” Albrighton told Foxes Player.

“Just before half time when they got their second it looked like they could go on and get a couple more, but we saw out the half and we showed character in the second half. It was a good display and we were unlucky not to come away with anything.

“That’s something that we probably need to work on – taking our chances – but it’s fine margins and on another day those chances go in. It was disappointing to come away with nothing, but we’ll go again.”

Albrighton and his team-mates can draw confidence from their last FA Cup outing at Tottenham Hotspur, when they recovered from 1-0 down to clinch a brilliant 2-1 win, although they’d rather not have to come from behind if they can possibly avoid it.

He added: “We got a good result there and it was another game where we worked hard, fought from behind and showed character. So if we can avoid conceding early doors this weekend, we’ll have a great chance.

“You use the phrase fine margins, and it is. We’ve created chances and we’re doing that in abundance, so if we can just start putting a few of them away then we’ll be fine.”
