The Foxes lost the first leg 4-0 at Selhurst Park, and despite a 2-1 win at Filbert Street in the second leg, it was Charlton who went on to the final, where they were beaten 2-1 by Coventry City on aggregate.
City’s first quarter-final appearance came in 1983 when they lost 2-0 at Luton, before another defeat by the same scoreline to Manchester United seven years later in their third last-eight tie.
The most recent City side to make it to this stage was a 2011 team that included Jeff Schlupp and Liam Moore, who were edged out 2-1 by eventual runners-up Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
Leicester City’s current Under-18s side, managed by Trevor Peake, take on Birmingham City at King Power Stadium on Wednesday 25 February (KO 7pm).
