Vardy: Every Point Is Vital

While Leicester City were denied a famous victory at Goodison Park on Sunday, striker Jamie Vardy says the point gained in the 2-2 Barclays Premier League draw with Everton is still an important one.

The Foxes scored twice in six minutes through David Nugent and Esteban Cambiasso in reply to Steven Naismith’s opener, putting City into a 2-1 lead with 20 minutes to go.
But a late header from Romelu Lukaku, which took an unfortunate deflection off defender Matthew Upson, levelled the score up at 2-2 with just three minutes to play.
“Every point is vital this year,” Vardy told Foxes Player. “It’s another point towards the direction that we want to be in. Now we move onto the next game, and try and get three points out of that one.
“We’re taking each game as it comes. We’re going into every single game wanting the three points.
“We’ve all walked into the changing rooms after the game and it does feel like a loss, but it’s another point in the right direction. We’ve cut that gap to four points now.”
Vardy played a pivotal role in City’s two goals after coming on as a substitute just after the hour mark. The former Fleetwood Town man delivered the cross which Toffees goalkeeper Tim Howard parried into the path of Nugent, who duly capitalised, before Vardy collected Danny Simpson’s back-post cross to square for Cambiasso.
Commenting on his impact, Vardy continued: “Me and Nuge got the nod off the gaffer to come on. Everyone needs to be prepared for the game even if you’re coming off the bench.
“We’ve come on, made a good impact and turned the game around. I think we’re a bit unfortunate not to walk away with the three points.
“Nuge is buzzing about his goal, but that’s how he always is. He’s always a bit chirpy. I’m just glad he got his goal.
"At the end of the day the main thing is the team as a whole. It doesn’t matter who scores the goals, it’s about getting the points on the table.”
The Foxes had the maximum backing of over 1,800 members of the Blue Army for the trip to Merseyside – something which Vardy was quick to heap praise on.
He added: “The fans are brilliant. They always are. We take thousands and thousands away from home, and to be fair, they make the most noise when we’re at other side’s grounds. They’re our extra man.”
