Schmeichel Hoping For Game Time

Wednesday night sees Leicester City star Kasper Schmeichel in line to play just his second competitive game in nearly four months when Denmark take on the United States in a friendly.
The Danish shot stopper suffered a broken metatarsal in training shortly before the team’s King Power Stadium clash with Manchester City in December, with both Ben Hamer and Mark Schwarzer featuring for the Foxes in the subsequent months.

He returned to Nigel Pearson’s starting XI for the 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend at White Hart Lane, and also completed 90 minutes for the Development Squad.

But with the majority of the City squad without games over the international period, back-to-back games with Denmark could prove very useful for Schmeichel as he looks to regain top form ahead of City’s run-in.

There are two opportunities for Schmeichel to play – at home to the USA on Wednesday and away to France on Sunday – and the 28-year-old was keen to be involved.

He told Foxes Player: “Obviously I hope I play for Denmark. It’s good [to have lots of games], and every game you play after you’ve been injured you realise just how thankful you are that you’re fit and able to play.

“I’m going to go away, work as hard as I can and do everything I can to play more games for Denmark and for Leicester.”
