Development Squad midfielder Jak McCourt says his side have earned the right to play in next season’s Premier League International Cup.
The Foxes secured their spot in the top eight of the Barclays U21 Premier League with a 3-1 victory over West Ham United at King Power Stadium on Monday, meaning they qualified for the European tournament.

And having made it to the semi-finals of the International Cup this season, McCourt believes his side fully deserve to be battling it out with some of the continent's biggest clubs.

“It’s great for us to end the season with a positive result,” McCourt told Foxes Player. “The aim was to come in and get the three points,

so we’re made up with the result.

“It’s vital to get the early goals. We set out well from the start, got an early goal after the first couple of minutes and got two more before half-time to settle the game for us.

“Before the game we said that if we win we would finish in the top eight, and that’s been our aim since Christmas.

“I think we deserve to be in that top eight so that we can play games home and away in the International Cup.”

McCourt scored his fourth goal of the 2014/15 season against West Ham, and it was some strike. Winger Jack Barmby rolled the ball out to the midfielder, who hammered in an unstoppable effort from 30 yards.

Reflecting on his hit, McCourt said: “Before the game, the manager told me that I need to try and get some more goals, and that’s why he played me a little higher up in the first half. I’ve just hit it sweetly and it’s ended up going in.

“We said at half-time that it’s about time that one has come off for us. We practice those sorts of free kicks. I think that’s the only one that’s come off for us and it’s come on the last day of the season, so I’m happy with the goal.”
