- Born in Rome in 1951, he is the son of a Roman butcher 

- Has managed 14 teams during his career, including huge names such as Juventus, Internazionale, Valencia, Roma and Chelsea 

- Was a full-back during his playing career in Italy and won four promotions as a player 

- Won nine major trophies as a manager, including a domestic cup double for Fiorentina in 1996 and the UEFA Super Cup for Valencia in 2004 

- Signed Frank Lampard to Chelsea from West Ham United in 2001. The midfielder went on to score 211 goals for the Stamford Bridge side 

- After leaving Chelsea, Ranieri wrote a book entitled ‘Proud Man Walking’. All profits went to the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital 

- Guided Chelsea to a 4-0 win over Leicester City on his first visit to Filbert Way in January 2004 

- Has twice missed out on the league title to unbeaten sides. AC Milan won Serie A without losing a match when he was in charge of Napoli in 1991/92 and Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ beat his Chelsea side to the Premier League title in 2003/04 

- Signed current Leicester City defender Robert Huth for Chelsea in 2001 and gave him his debut shortly afterwards 

- Has twice won Premier League Manager of the Month awards, in September 2003 and March 2004
