After guiding his side to a 2-0 Barclays U18 Premier League win over Norwich City, Leicester City Under-18s manager Trevor Peake praised the young Foxes' disciplined defensive performance.

Harvey Barnes opened the scoring with just five minutes on the clock with a fine solo effort that saw him glide past his marker and slot in to make it 1-0.

Striker Admiral Muskwe went on to double the young Foxes’ advantage on 70 minutes, before Norwich finished the game well and certainly tested City’s defence on a number of occasions.

“For me, it’s a really positive part of Harvey’s game when he gets the ball and runs at the defence,” Peake said on City’s first goal. “He eliminated two or three defenders before sliding past the goalkeeper.

“For the second, Admiral’s reaction time is really good to most things. It was really important for him to get in front of his marker and score.

“We said after the game that our front six players should be rewarded in a way for the defensive work that they put in. Their work rate was admirable, so we’ve got to try and build up play at the other end to give them a chance of scoring.”

The display of City shot-stopper Max Bramley was another positive from a game in which Peake felt his side weren’t quite performing at their maximum in.

The Under-18s boss added: “Performance wise, we weren’t at our best. We didn’t keep hold of possession too well, and through that factor we didn’t create as many chances as we would have liked to.

“I think we’ve got to concentrate a bit more on the possession side of the game. At this level, you can overload that – sometimes teams keep possession just for the sake of it. We’ve got to get that balance and certainly work on our possession-based attacks.”
