Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has given an update on the fitness striker Jamie Vardy and winger Nathan Dyer ahead of Saturday’s Barclays Premier League clash with Norwich City.
The Foxes head to Carrow Road with a fine record of just one defeat in their last seven league fixtures, only beaten by Arsenal last time out.
On the scoresheet twice in that game was Vardy, who took his tally for the season to six goals and in turn earned the title of the Premier League’s top scorer, followed closely by winger Riyad Mahrez with five.
The City No.9’s work rate was as high as ever against the Gunners as he failed to let a broken wrist get in the way of his assault on some of England’s best defences.
Ranieri revealed that while Vardy’s wrist is broken in two places, he is still operating at full capacity. The City boss said: “He has two broken bones but the medical staff have done very well to treat it. He wants to play and doesn’t want to stop because of injury.
“We agree as long as he is safe, and if the referee says it is okay then for us it is okay. He broke it when he fell to the ground (against Aston Villa).
“A lot of players want to play on when they feel good. It is not a big problem for the outfield players but for the 'keepers it would not be possible. He is in great condition.
“He is very good he is a hard worker. He presses everyone, works the channels and the space, and he is also very calm in his decision making. He has improved a lot and I am very happy with him.”
Ranieri went on to confirm that Dyer, on loan from Swansea City until the end of the season, will miss out after picking up a knock in the 3-2 win over Aston Villa. Midfielder Matty James is City’s only long-term absentee as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.
The City boss added: “Nathan Dyer is back but he’s not ready to play. Today, he had his first training session back with us.”
