Jeffrey Schlupp said it was only a matter of time before Leicester City found the back of the net against Norwich City at King Power Stadium on Saturday.

It was only the third time this Barclays Premier League campaign that the Foxes had the majority of possession and that paid off with a minute to play.

After dominating proceedings, Claudio Ranieri’s outfit found the back of the net through Leonardo Ulloa, who converted Marc Albrighton’s cross at the back post.

And Academy graduate Schlupp explained how his side’s persistence proved to be key against the Canaries as City maintained their two-point lead at the top of the table.

Schlupp told Foxes Player HD: “Norwich came here with a game plan and it nearly paid off for them but we just kept at it. We kept knocking on the door and eventually we scored that goal.

“Respect to them because they’re scrapping down there just like we did last season, so we know what it feels like to be in that position.

“We believed in ourselves. We knew it was only a matter of time and when Leo [Ulloa] put that in, it was like a relief because we’d been going at them the whole game. With it being the 89th minute, it felt extra sweet. It was lovely to see him score that goal and he deserves it.

“I think everyone saw how down we were after that tough result against Arsenal, conceding so late on, so it meant a lot for us and I’m sure it meant a lot to the fans too. We just wanted those three points.

“If you look at our other games. It would have been nicer to get it earlier on and got more goals, but a win is a win and we’ll take that into the next game on Tuesday. The fighting spirit has always been there and we’ve had to show that again.”

With the victory came another clean sheet – City’s fifth consecutive Premier League shutout at King Power Stadium – and Schlupp was full of praise for City’s defensive performances this term. Jeffrey Schlupp celeb

“The back four lads have been terrific all season and Daniel Amartey slotted in there and had a good game,” Schlupp continued. “When you’ve got guys like that at the back giving you that reassurance, it gives the guys further forward up the field that freedom to go and create.

“We’ve kept a lot of clean sheets and that always helps. You keep clean sheets, you don’t lose, so hopefully we can keep that going and win some more games.”

The Ghana international defender came off the bench with just over 20 minutes to play to make his first appearance for the Foxes since 5 December due to a hamstring problem.

He added: “I’m delighted. It’s been a long three months out working on getting back fit. I’ve worked hard and it felt extra sweet coming back and leaving on the winning team.”
