Goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler believes Saturday’s shootout victory over Celtic will act as good preparation for their upcoming International Champions Cup fixtures.

With the scoreline tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes thanks to a stunning goal from Riyad Mahrez and Eoghan O’Connell’s equaliser, the clash was decided from the spot.

Both Celtic and City converted their first five penalties, before Kasper Schmeichel palmed away James Forrest’s effort from 12 yards, allowing Daniel Amartey to win it for the Foxes.

The two International Champions Cup points earned leaves City second in the table behind Saturday’s opponents Paris Saint-Germain.

But Zieler, who made several fine saves in the first period before being replaced by Schmeichel at the break, went on to explain that his side gained more than just two points from the clash against Celtic, as they continued preparations for the 2016/17 season.

Zieler told LCFC TV: “It was a very tight game. Both sides played very well and it was a first really tough test for us. It had to be decided by penalties and it was a good save by Kasper [Schmeichel], so we won the game. It was a great test for the team.

“For me also, it was nice to get 45 minutes. I really enjoyed it and I enjoyed playing in front of the crowd away at Celtic. I had to make a few saves, so it was good for me.

“I’ve been here before and it’s really impressive. They’ve got great fans, but also our away fans did great – it was a good atmosphere and a good game.

“It was only a pre season game, but it’s always nice to win games – you don’t want to lose on penalties, so it was great for the team and for Kasper that we won.”

The Foxes squad jetted out to Los Angeles on Sunday ahead of next weekend’s mouthwatering clash with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

The stopper said ahead of that fixture: “It’s going to be a great experience playing PSG. I’m getting sharper and the team is getting fitter, so we should be fit for the start of the season.

“I’m getting better. Obviously, it’s still pre season and we’re working hard. We’re looking forward to the trip to Los Angeles.”
