After Leicester City added exciting Algerian international striker Islam Slimani to their ranks on Deadline Day, LCFC.com dug out four things you may not know about the new addition…
GOALS, GOALS AND GOALS…

The 2015/16 season was the most productive of Slimani’s career so far, as he hit a stunning 31 goals in 44 appearances for Sporting Lisbon. That total included an impressive 27 goals in just 33 league appearances to help Sporting to a second place finish.

THE MAN THEY CALL THE DRAGON SLAYER…

Islam leaves Sporting Lisbon as the man known affectionately to supporters as ‘The Dragon Slayer’, due to his incredible record of scoring against fierce rivals Porto, who the Foxes face in their Champions League group. Slimani has found the net six times in six games against the Dragons of Porto, most recently in a 2-1 win on Sunday.

A FAMILIAR STORY…

Like many of City’s stars, Islam’s story is one of hard work, belief and dedication as he worked his way through up from the lower leagues of Algerian football to eventually grace the Champions League and international stage. His big move to Sporting Lisbon came at the age of 25 – the same age at which Jamie Vardy signed for Leicester City from Fleetwood Town.

WORLD CUP HERO…

The striker wrote his name into Algerian football history in 2014 when his goal against Russia in the final group game secured progress to the knockout stages for the first time. Slimani was a star performer for an impressive Algeria during the tournament as they went out to eventual winners Germany in extra-time of their last-16 tie.
