Steve Beaglehole felt Leicester City’s Under-19s deserved at least a point out of their UEFA Youth League clash with Club Brugge following a determined second half performance.

The young Foxes were dealt an early blow after Dennis Van Vaerenbergh netted a double in the first half to put the hosts 2-0 up.

Admiral Muskwe fired in a brilliant effort just before the break to get his side right back into the game, as he converted Faiq Bolkiah’s neat pass.

But despite City's dominance in the second period, Brugge defended well to see out the victory.

“It’s a cliché that’s used too often, but it’s appropriate for tonight, because it was a game of two halves,” Beaglehole told LCFC TV. “We didn’t start too well – we were on the back foot.

“It’s important to keep a clean sheet in this competition, but we went a goal down early on and that was a big blow for us.

“After going 2-0 down, we fought back and got a lifeline just before half-time. It was a fantastic finish from Admiral Muskwe.

“It gave us a lift at half-time, so we changed the shape and went to a diamond and played two up front with one in behind.

“We pressed high and defended high up the pitch and I really enjoyed our second half performance. The only thing we didn’t do was score.”

The Club’s Under-19s next face FC Porto at Loughborough University on Tuesday 27 September and Beaglehole is hoping that City can replicate Tuesday's second half efforts against their Portuguese opponents.

He added: “There were a lot of positives in the second half. If we can perform like that in our next game for 90 minutes then we’ve got a real chance of doing well and progressing.

“This group of players are very privileged to have this sort of football education. They’ll have a lot of games and ones abroad like this are fantastic for them.”
