Pearson: Millwall Will Ask Questions

Few would have expected City manager Nigel Pearson to put unnecessary significance on the much-hyped Christmas period.

But while the pragmatic Foxes boss insists his side will approach every game in the same manner as the last, he appreciates why many build up the festive fixture list into an important time of year.

City travel to Millwall on Saturday before the games really begin to pile up. Leaders Cardiff visit King Power Stadium on 22 December, before away trips to Hull and Burnley and a New Year’s Day visit of Huddersfield.

“I view all the games the same to be honest, but I do understand people have a different slant on how they view this period,” Pearson told the media ahead of Saturday’s game at The Den.

“It’s always an important part of the season, there’s no doubt about that, because you get to somewhere around the halfway mark.

“Over the Christmas and New Year period people start to have a better idea of how things are going to pan out. I suppose people in football are like everybody else – when you turn into the New Year, some people get stuck in the doldrums and some people kick on.

“Historically, the January and February months are critical times as to whether you can push on or not and clearly the Christmas period builds up to that.”

Regardless of form or league position, trips to Millwall are invariably demanding as visiting sides bid to combat the Lions’ notoriously uncompromising style.

Prior to a 3-0 defeat at Ipswich last week, Kenny Jackett’s side had been on a 13-game unbeaten run – a feat that helped earn the experienced Lions boss the npower Championship Manager of the Month award.

“They’ve done exceptionally well because they had a very difficult start to the season and have had a very good run since,” Pearson said of Jackett’s side.

“They always make the most of playing at home and have the mentality that their place is a difficult place to go to.

“It’s something we need to be aware of but, as always, it’s our own performance that is the most important factor in how we go about playing Millwall on Saturday.

“They’ve got two front players that work exceptionally hard, but they work hard as a team.

“They make sure they ask a lot of questions, so we know what they’re about and they have a very good work ethic. We’re going to have to beat that.”

Tickets for Saturday’s trip to Millwall will be available to purchase from the City Fanstore and the City Sales Centre on 0844 815 5000 until 1pm on Friday. Away tickets will also be available to purchase from The Den on the day of the game. for more information.
