City striker Jamie Vardy could be in contention for a return to the first team squad this weekend when the Foxes travel to Bristol City in the npower Championship.

The energetic front-man played 45 minutes of a behind-closed-doors friendly earlier in the week and has now resumed full training, according to manager Nigel Pearson.

Missing since the visit of Cardiff City just before Christmas with a heel injury, Vardy’s progress will now be monitored on Thursday and Friday to see if he is fit enough to be involved at Ashton Gate.

“Jamie played part in a game that we had here the other day, came through it ok and will be training with us today,” Pearson told the media on Thursday morning.

“We’ll have to see how it goes today. I’m not ruling him out, but we’ll see how he is.”

Vardy is not the only one making progress from the treatment room, with defenders Sean St. Ledger and Zak Whitbread, plus midfielder Richie Wellens, all taking steps towards a return to full fitness.

“Richie Wellens is on his way back too so, for the most part we’re not too bad,” Pearson said of the Foxes’ injury situation.

“St. Ledger is making some progress and Zak should be available before too long.”

The Foxes travel to Bristol City this Saturday before returning to King Power Stadium next Friday (18 January) to face promotion rivals Middlesbrough.
