The talented 20-year-old played 27 times for Nigel Pearson’s side since his , and went on to forge an impressive partnership in the heart of City’s defence alongside Club captain Wes Morgan.
It has been a momentous season for Keane, who helped The Foxes make a late charge into the play-offs, , as well as making his in March.
“I’d just like to say thanks to every single one of the Leicester fans for all the support they’ve given me,” Keane told .
“When I first came to Leicester I didn’t really expect it to be as good a journey as it has been, and it wouldn’t have been anywhere near as good as it was if it hadn’t have been for the fans, who chanted my name and gave me the support I needed as a young centre half on my first-ever loan spell.
“I always thought there would be a loan spell on the cards for me this season, but I didn’t expect it to be at as big a club as Leicester, and when they came in I was absolutely desperate to join.
“I’ve loved my time at Leicester – all the staff, players and fans have been great with me and I can’t thank them enough for everything they’ve helped me with as it really has been a great year for me.”
The England youth international, who made two appearances for the Red Devils in the league cup before heading out on-loan to City, remarkably stepped back into the breach for his parent club just two days after the play-off semi-final heartbreak at Watford.
He appeared in at Old Trafford on 14 May before ending his season in true Manchester United style by starring as they took to Elite Development League title with a .
Keane added: “When I played in the semi-final against Liverpool just two days after losing against Watford in the play-offs I was very tired but it helped me to put the disappointment of Watford behind me and I was glad to be able to play a couple of games for United and win another trophy - it was good the way we did it too, after being 2-0 behind at half time.
“I’m just getting used to playing so many games in such a short period of time, and my experience at Leicester will certainly help me with that in the future. To be honest I wasn’t expecting to play, but I wasn’t going to turn down the chance to play Liverpool at Old Trafford.”
The defender is now looking forward to continuing his development next season after an eventful 2012/13 campaign in the Championship with City, and he admits he would love to see his former central defensive team-mate plying his trade in the top-flight with The Foxes.
“I benefitted massively from playing with Wes Morgan,” said Keane, who started 26 matches alongside the skipper.
“He’s got a lot of experience and he’s a very good footballer - probably more so than he gets credit for.
“Wes is capable of playing in the Premier League easily. It’s great to play alongside somebody like him who is captain and is always, always talking.
“Then with Paul Koncheksy to my left and Kasper behind me in goal, there was so much experience in that defence and that helped me massively, particularly when I first came, it was easy to settle in quickly.
“When I set out my aims at the start of the season, I couldn’t have imagined that I’d achieve what I have. I hope that next season I can keep improving on what I’ve done this season with Leicester, and I’m really pleased to have accomplished my aims.
“So I’d just like to thank everyone for absolutely everything and wish Leicester good luck for next season.”
