Harry Maguire has been rewarded for his outstanding performances in a Leicester City shirt with a maiden call-up for England ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovakia.

- Harry Maguire has been called up for the England squad for the first time in his career
- The Leicester City centre back has impressed greatly since joining the Club
- Manager Craig Shakespeare expressed his delight for Maguire on Thursday afternoon
- Jamie Vardy has also been selected in England's squad for two World Cup qualifiers

The 24-year-old centre back has been in stellar form for the Foxes since joining the Club earlier this summer, earning plaudits from across the spectrum of opinion this month.

Despite an appearance for the England Under-21s in 2012, a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s squad is recognition for years of perseverance from the Sheffield-born defender.

After making his Foxes debut during the Premier League's curtain-raiser at Arsenal, Maguire has since impressed during 2-0 and 4-1 victories over Brighton & Hove Albion and Sheffield United respectfully.

It caps an emotional week for Maguire after he received a heartfelt reception from his former supporters at Bramall Lane, where he started his career, in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.

Foxes manager Craig Shakespeare said: “It is the recognition he deserves. For us as a Football Club, it shows how strong we were on the recruitment.

“For him personally, I am very, very pleased. He has impressed everybody with his ability, of course, but also his character. We are all delighted for him at the Football Club.”
