Despite doing enough to win at West Ham United, LCFC Radio pundit Gerry Taggart says a 1-1 draw was a fair result for Leicester City.

Claude Puel’s men played an expressive attacking game early on on Friday night, but the hosts settled and Cheikhou Kouyate cancelled out Marc Albrighton’s opener.

Taggart was at London Stadium commentating on Matchday Live - alongside host Sam Putnam and commentator Chris Coles – and he reflected on the result at full-time.

“That wasn’t only a game of two goals, it was a game of two halves too,” he said. “Leicester City came out of the blocks flying early on and looked very dangerous.

“They really should have capitalised on that lead and added to it. If they would have gone in two or three goals to the good at half-time, nobody would have batted an eyelid.

“They switched off right at the end of the first half and let West Ham back into the game with a soft equaliser. After that, you have to give West Ham credit.”

[West Ham] were the better side in the second half, they got to grips with what Leicester were trying to do and, you’ve got to say, they finished the game stronger and it’s a fair result.

Taggart admits the Hammers were the more likely of the two sides to score a winner in the latter moments of the clash, which is why he believes a draw was a fair outcome.

He added: “They were the better side in the second half, they got to grips with what Leicester were trying to do and, you’ve got to say, they finished the game stronger and it’s a fair result.

“Under a new manager in David Moyes, it’s clear West Ham have picked up so it’s a fair result.”
