Having made a substitute appearance in the UEFA Champions League last term, the young midfielder was handed his full debut by Claude Puel during Leicester City’s Emirates FA Cup Third Round tie at Fleetwood Town.

Now, the midfielder is hoping for more first team involvement in the near future after an encouraging week with the Foxes.

“It has been a positive week for me,” Barnes told LCFC TV. “Discovering that I had been recalled was good for me.

“It shows that the manager has good intentions and having the start today was another positive.

“I knew a few days before that I was being recalled. The manager contacted Barnsley and my agent to let them know and I found out I was starting in training on Friday.

“The manager had a chat with me then and told me I was starting and spoke to me about a few different things for the game.”

Barnes came off just before the hour mark during what he described as a difficult clash for Puel’s outfit.

We knew they were going to play long balls and the pitch wasn’t the best to play passing football on, but the main thing is we didn’t lose and we have another chance at it.

Barnes continued: “It was a tough game. It is a tough place to come. They are a good side and a physical side.

“We knew they were going to play long balls and the pitch wasn’t the best to play passing football on, but the main thing is we didn’t lose and we have another chance at it.

“I know extra games aren’t always a good thing but for us to still be in the draw with the chance to progress, I think that was the main thing today.”
