The LCFC Community Trust helped launch the Premier League’s new Super Movers initiative on Thursday afternoon, in coordination with the BBC.

An exciting partnership which aspires to encourage schoolchildren to become more active and to enhance their learning, Super Movers intends to bring celebrities from football, music and television together in fun, free and easy-to-follow educational videos.

On Thursday, at Stokes Wood Primary School, the LCFC Community Trust took part in an exciting live launch event to begin the process of inspiring the next generation to participate.

Footage was beamed back to Anfield Stadium in Liverpool where Alex Scott joined CBBC hosts Ben Shires and Naomi Wilkinson to front a BBC Live Lesson, broadcast online.

Dr Lauren Sherar, Senior Lecturer in Physical Activity and Public Health at Loughborough University and an academic advisor for Super Movers said: “There is growing evidence supporting beneficial effects of active learning on education-related outcomes.

“Super Movers is a fantastic programme to help teachers create a fun and active classroom.”

An online survey, carried out by Populus, found that over half of parents of pupils aged five-10 agree that their children are better behaved (54 per cent) after taking part in exercise.

Premier League and professional football clubs, including Leicester City, will support Super Movers, helping teachers use the videos in classrooms to create an active ethos.

Super Movers schools will also have the chance to win awards from the Premier League and clubs, such as a visit from the Premier League trophy.

Richard Scudamore, Executive Chairman of the Premier League, added: “We recognise the power football has to connect with young people and positively influence their lives.

“Super Movers will harness the reach and strength of our clubs and the BBC to encourage children to be more active and engaged throughout their learning.”
