While Leicester City suffered a 2-1 defeat by the Hornets at Vicarage Road on Boxing Day, Claude Puel’s men have rediscovered their form to go five points clear of Marco Silva’s side.
Walker, speaking to LCFC Radio’s Matchday Live programme this week, revealed how he expects Watford to go about seeking a positive result having gone three games without success in the Premier League.
“Watford’s form has been a little but up and down,” he said. It’s been a little bit better than the weeks before the last Leicester game, but that was really the highlight of the last few months.
“They lost late on against Swansea having lead so confidence isn’t at an all-time high, let’s put it that well, and they desperately need a good win for their confidence.
“There was a bit of optimism around the club after the Leicester game but it was quickly extinguished. The way they capitulated at Swansea, not the first time, was damaging for them.
“Their strengths are certainly in attack with players like Andre Gray and Troy Deeney, but their defence isn’t in the best of form. We know they have potential going forward.”
On combating City’s threats, meanwhile, Walker believes former loanee Molla Wagué could be the man tasked with containing Jamie Vardy on Filbert Way.
“They will have to try and sit quite deep, they’ll probably play Molla Wagué in defence,” he added. “They will try to play on the break and there is plenty of pace in this Watford team.”
