The Sydney-born full back, 23, started for Paul Cook’s Sky Bet League 1 outfit on Monday as Will Grigg’s 79th minute winner knocked the Premier League leaders out at the Fifth Round stage.

It was Elder’s interception which led to Grigg’s strike in a 1-0 success which sets up a home quarter-finals encounter with top flight side Southampton in March.

So far this term, Wigan have already defeated Crawley Town, AFC Flyde, AFC Bournemouth and West Ham United in the FA Cup while they currently occupy third place in the League 1 table.

Elsewhere, Argentine striker Leonardo Ulloa scored the first goal of his loan spell with Brighton and Hove Albion during a 3-1 Fifth Round victory over Coventry City on Saturday.

New signing Jurgen Locadia opened the scoring for the Seagulls at AMEX Stadium before Connor Goldson added their second. Ulloa, 31, struck in the 61st minute for Chris Hughton’s men.

Last Tuesday, meanwhile, Ahmed Musa played 90 minutes in Serbia as CSKA Moscow held Red Star Belgrade to a 0-0 draw in the Round of 32 stage of the UEFA Europa League.

The Nigeria international, 25, will hope to be in contention again for the Russian outfit when they host Belgrade for the second leg on Wednesday (5pm GMT kick-off).
