The Foxes know they could close the gap to Sean Dyche’s men to just three points with a victory at Turf Moor, but Maguire knows the hosts will pose a stern challenge (3pm kick-off).

“First and foremost, I think it’s going to be a really tough game, Burnley have been really strong at home,” the England international told LCFC TV.

“It’s going to be an exciting game for us, the fans… it’s a big game in our season. There’s no doubt about it, we’re not going to sit here and play it down at all.

“It’s a big game and we need to go there and perform and, if we perform to our best ability, we feel that we have enough ability in our squad to go there and get three points.

“It’s a big game for ourselves in terms of wanting that European spot. They’ve been in great form in recent weeks, there’s no doubt about it, I think they’ve won four on the bounce.

“They’ve been hard to catch but it’s a great opportunity for ourselves after a lacklustre performance on Saturday, which wasn’t like ourselves... we didn’t perform to the levels we expect.

“We’ve got a great opportunity and prove to everybody that we’re back flying and right in the hunt for seventh place.”

On the preparation City have undergone at Belvoir Drive this week, Maguire says the squad have a determination to remedy the 2-1 reverse against Newcastle United last Saturday.

He added: “It’s been good. Obviously after a bad result on Saturday, everybody’s come in and we’ve managed to bring the morale back up.

“The atmosphere has been good around the place. We’re still confident, we’re still eighth in the Premier League, so we look around and we’re still confident.

“The result on Saturday wasn’t what we wanted or expected, and so wasn’t the performance, so we’re working hard this week.

"The lads have done everything we can to put it right and we go into the game on Saturday full of confidence to get three points.”
