Leicester City's third summer signing, James Maddison, has provided an insight into the reasons behind his decision to join the Club this week.

The 21-year-old will link up with his new Foxes team-mates when Claude Puel's men return to Belvoir Drive for pre-season training later this summer.

City discovered on Thursday that they will begin their 2018/19 Premier League campaign with an exciting away clash against Manchester United on Saturday 11 August (3pm kick-off).

Speaking ahead of his first official meeting with Puel's talented squad, Maddison spoke at length to LCFC TV about his hopes for the future at King Power Stadium.

These are some of the headlines from his maiden interview as a Leicester City player...

Delight at early arrival

James Maddison's first-ever interview with LCFC TV.

I think it benefits everyone, the earlier it’s done to be honest.

Especially the manager, if you think of it from his point of view, he’d obviously prefer to get his signings in earlier rather than later.

That gives him a full pre-season to work with them and get the squad really knitted together.

Pre-season excitement

Maddison's medical at Belvoir Drive earlier this week.

It’s a big thing when you come to a new place... you want to get to get on with everyone and you want to get on with all of the staff.

From the staff I have met today and a couple of the players, it’s been really good and really promising.

I will have to get myself right physically and I am looking forward to cracking on, meeting all the lads and getting playing.

England Under-21s joy

Maddison has played alongside Foxes duo Ben Chilwell and Demarai Gray for England's Under-21s.

There is no better feeling, it’s something that I have always strived towards and I have always felt I had a chance and, if I showcased by ability on a good level, then I’d be able to take that opportunity.

Thankfully Aidy Boothroyd called me up back in November and I made my debut at Ukraine away and my dad flew out to Ukraine to watch the game and it was a moment I will never forget.

Friendly faces at City

City's newest signing says he is excited to meet his new colleagues.

I can’t wait to meet all the lads. It will be great to come into training later this summer and getting to meet them all properly.

I am good friends with Ben Chillwell, Demarai Gray and George Thomas, who know has been in the Under-23s, so I can’t wait to meet up with the lads, get going and crack on.

Attacking stats pride

In total, Maddison scored 15 goals and registered eight assists for Norwich, enough to warrant a place in the PFA Championship Team of the Year.

I had a good return last year with 15 goals and eight assists over the season.

I am a player who plays in the No.10 role mainly and likes to get fans off their seat with assists, goals and create chances... I think that’s what it’s about.

Especially playing in that midfield position, you’ve got to chip in with the goals and the assists because that’s what you get judged on, end product, and I was pleased to go home with those stats.
