The Foxes duo returned to Belvoir Drive this week after impressing for England as Gareth Southgate's Three Lions reached the last-four of the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1990.
After a week of full training, Maguire and Vardy are in Puel's thoughts, but the Frenchman confirmed on Thursday morning that a decision would be made following City's afternoon session.
"We will see, I think Harry and Jamie are ready in their mind, but I don’t know if they’re ready in their body and their fitness level," Puel said.
"We have another training session this afternoon and then we will make decisions about the squad."
Discussing his side's pre-season preparations, Puel addressed the difficulties of adapting around the World Cup, which resulted in 10 players returning at a staggered rate over the summer.
However, the Foxes manager has been delighted with the application of his squad, especially the younger players who have been afforded opportunities in friendly fixtures.
"It’s a good feeling, it was the first time last season I came to a club in the middle of the season without preparation or pre-season friendly games to prepare something," he added.
"Of course it’s better, this pre-season, but we have different difficulties after the World Cup.
"It was tough with a long transfer window and I had to make tough decisions about the squad also but it was a good feeling at the training camps in Austria and Évian, in France.
"It was amazing to see some young players from the Academy play some friendly games without the international players, it’s a good feeling for the future of the Club."
