The 32-year-old found the net with an extraordinary strike from outside the box before Vicente Iborra, Kelechi Iheanacho and Rachid Ghezzal followed up at King Power Stadium.

With a place in the Carabao Cup Third Round secured, Fuchs and his Foxes colleagues are looking ahead to Saturday’s clash with Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Reflecting on Tuesday’s victory over Fleetwood, the Austrian said: “It was great, we took it very seriously, no matter which opponent we are facing we try and give it our best.

“I think all the people that were here in the stadium had the same feeling that we gave it our best, and that’s how you win 4-0.

“It’s always tricky. You have to take it very seriously; I think we did a good job today and we’re very proud of the win.”

On his goal, a wonderful half-volley from outside the box, he added: “Well to be honest I played a little bit with my son in the backyard!

“He told me ‘listen, when you have a chance go up, hit the ball you have a great strike!’

They are a great team, no doubt about that, but we have the confidence and we are trying to give our best there as well.

“I listened to him. It went in well. I’m happy the ball went in but I’m happier about the performance that we put in on the field. I’m proud of the boys to play such a game.

“I took the risk; it paid off. I watched it back obviously and it feels good to watch my own goal and I’m happy about it.”

With the Reds coming to town at the weekend for a 12:30pm BST kick-off, Fuchs says City are under no illusions about the task at hand, but they remain confident of securing a result.

“Obviously we have Liverpool now at home next,” he continued. “They are a great team, no doubt about that, but we have the confidence and we are trying to give our best there as well.”
