Danny Drinkwater can’t wait for Leicester City to show what they can do on the big stage as they gear up for an FA Community Shield clash with Manchester United at Wembley on Sunday.

The Foxes go into the match as Premeir League champions but for a number of the squad, it will be their first taste of playing at the famous stadium, where they meet Jose Mourinho’s FA Cup winners.

Drinkwater himself has played at Wembley for England earlier this year and the prospect of doing so again with Leicester along with the chance to lift some more silverware is all the motivation he needs.

City head into the game on the back of pre-season matches against Oxford United, Celtic, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona and Drinkwater hopes they’ve put the squad in a strong position going into the match.

“We’ve had a good pre-season and quite a few games,” he told LCFC TV. “The quality of the games has been good. We’ve faced some good opposition to hopefully stand us in good stead for Sunday.

“I think no matter what the result we can take confidence from last season.

“Wembley is a great stadium and a great place to play your football. I’ve played there now and to show what you can do at such a big place is good. It’ll be the first time for a couple of lads so that will be exciting for them.

“The Leicester fans are always good too, away from home as well they’re always fantastic so I’m sure we’re going to take a big crowd to Wembley.”

Drinkwater himself is a former Manchester United player, having come through the club’s Academy before signing a contract with Leicester following a number of successful loan spells in the Football League.

But despite the connection to the red half of Manchester, it’s no different to any other match for the midfielder, who is determined not to lose focus.

He added: “It’s just another game. It’s an ex team but each game is as important as the next.

“They’ve signed few new players, got a new manager in and I’m sure they’re excited for the game as much as we are. It’s going to be a good game.

“I still talk to a few of the boys [from my Manchester United days]. Quite a lot of them have moved on and are playing for different Clubs but I keep tabs on them.”
