It's All About Helping The Team, Says Daka

The popular Zambia striker, who joined the Club from RB Salzburg last the summer, has been absent since the quarter-final clash at Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on 22 December. Daka, though, could be back in a Leicester shirt for the Premier League visit of Spurs on Wednesday.

A thoroughly positive character, the 23-year-old, who's scored seven goals so far for the Foxes, says his lay-off has been an opportunity both for himself to work on areas of his game in training and for his team-mates to step up. Leicester have beaten Liverpool and Watford over that period of time.

"It’s been a while since we spoke," he told LCFC TV. "It feels good to be back again. It’s been so great so far. I have had a very great start, a very good few months. I’ve been settling in well. I’m still settling in and adapting and still learning, but so far, I can say I’m heading towards the right direction.

"I’m the kind of person who will always try to find a positive in every negative situation. Even during that period when I got injured, I felt maybe it was also another opportunity for other guys to play and for me to regenerate, to refocus and work on other things in my game.

"It was just time for other people to step in and they really did. I’m just happy and glad that I’m now fine and training well with the team. I’m just happy that phase has gone and now I’m back. It’s all about helping the team. It’s about getting that momentum back again from where we finished.

"We have to continue and being consistent. The previous victories we’ve had are all gone now and we have to focus on what’s coming next. Tottenham is the one that’s next so the focus is on that game. We are ready to face the challenge and I believe we’re going to do our very best.

"It’s going to be a tough game. They’re going to come with everything they’ve got. Every game is challenging in the Premier League. Every game is unpredictable. You have to expect anything to happen, but we’re playing at home.

"The fans will come to give us that extra support that we need. We’re going to give everything and make sure we stay with the three points."

Spurs could field a man who will need no introduction to the Blue Army. Harry Kane, a former loanee at King Power Stadium, has a fearsome record against the Foxes over recent seasons. Daka, though, has full faith in City's defensive players, who have battled through injuries in recent fixtures.

"I’ve watched so many games of the Premier League before I came here," he explained. "I have followed quite a number of players. He’s a great striker. He’s got a very good finishing instinct and he’s going to try to give us a tough time, but we have got people to take care of him.

"We’ve got a team that plays together, we stick together. We don’t have to concentrate on them, we have to concentrate on ourselves. We know the quality that we have in the squad and we just have to use it."

Looking back on that Premier League victory over Liverpool before New Year's, Daka enthused about the performance of his colleagues and says now it's about picking up where Leicester left off in that fixture in order to climb the top-flight standings.

"It was a fantastic evening," he said. "I wish I was on the pitch! It was a great game, a big confidence boost for us. To watch the way the guys played was so amazing. After playing Manchester City and, in the space of two or three days, we come to play Liverpool, so to win, it’s very big.

"It’s huge for our confidence and now this is a new year. We have to start on a high note. We have to pick it up from where we left off and that’s what we have to do."

Daka also commented on the song which is now heard every matchday at home and away: "It’s a beautiful song, I like it! It’s really amazing! When you’re going on the pitch, you hear the fans singing your song.

"Even in the dressing room, I hear it every time from Kasper [Schmeichel], Vards (Jamie Vardy)… almost everyone! They’ll just be singing, and I really like it."
