O'Brien, 20, joined the Club in January 2021, going on to help City win the FA Women's Championship ahead of a successful maiden campaign in the Barclays FA Women's Super League - a first for both her and Leicester.

Despite delivering some brilliant attacking performances for the Foxes, it came as a surprise to the Coventry-born forward that she was up collecting two awards on Monday evening.

"I didn’t expect it," she told LCFC TV at King Power Stadium shortly after her second accolade of the night was announced. I’m a bit shocked to be fair, it’s just incredible for me. At the end of my first proper year here, I couldn’t ask for more.

"I’ve loved every second [at LCFC]. It’s been an incredible year for me. My first in full-time football, our first in the Super League and we stayed up, which is the most important thing, it’s been brilliant."

The forward took home the Goal of the Season award for her maiden strike of the season against Durham in the Continental Tyres League Cup, as voted for by the fans, before also claiming the Player of the Season prize, another one to be chosen by the Blue Army.

The former Coventry United star felt it was extra special to claim awards from public votes and thanked the supporters for their continued backing throughout the campaign.

"They've been incredible all year and I think it proved how much we missed them the year before," O'Brien said, paying tribute to the fans. "Every week, home and away, they are always there and we always hear them.

Womens POTS Prize 'Amazing' For O'Brien

Shannon O'Brien speaks to LCFC TV after winning Leicester City's Womens Player of the Season accolade on Monday.

"They make their own songs and they do everything and we can't ask for much for from them and hopefully we'll see them again next year."

Netting the equaliser at Tottenham Hotspur in the Vitality Women's FA Cup Fourth Round victory over the Lilywhites, the England Under-23s international also scored the winner in a crucial league fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion in January - her debut goal in the top flight.

"It was massive," the young Lioness commented on beating the Seagulls on Filbert Way. "I think it was a massive three points for us that set us on our way to staying up. We'd struggled before to hold on to leads or even a point and that was a big turning point for us. It proved we could do it.

"We had to stay up this year so that we could push on, and we have done, so we'll have a nice rest over the summer and then get back in and be ready to go again from where we left off."
