Iheanacho: Now We Build

Kelechi Iheanacho says Leicester City's focus should now be on building momentum after Saturday's superb 4-2 win at Aston Villa.
More on this story...

- Leicester City won 4-2 at Aston Villa on Saturday
- Goalscorer Kelechi Iheanacho was delighted to help City pick up a morale-boosting win
- James Maddison, Tetê and Dennis Praet also struck at Villa Park

The two sides traded blows early on with goals from James Maddison and Kelechi Iheanacho twice levelling the scores, before Tetê put the Foxes in front before half-time. Dennis Praet then made sure with a fourth in the second half. Ollie Watkins had originally given Villa the lead, while Harry Souttar's own goal gave them a second.

It was ultimately a memorable win for City, though, and Iheanacho - making just his second Premier League start of the season - was thrilled to play his part at Villa Park. That was Leicester's first top-flight win of 2023.

"We’re happy today to get the win," the Nigerian told LCFC TV. "It’s been a little while, but getting this win now, we’re happy, and we can build into the next games. Hopefully we can continue in those games. We had a good feeling coming into this game.

Obviously, starting today, I was really happy to do my bit for the team.

"We’d trained really well. With the new guys as well coming into the game, they did really well today as well. We know what we have to do now.

"We had a lot of chances in the game. Conceding [the first] goal is not easy, but we stayed calm and we kept creating chances and opening the spaces. Madders got us back into the game and then Harvey Barnes, you know what he’s like.

Just What We Needed, Says Iheanacho

Goalscorer Kelechi Iheanacho talks through the significance of Leicester City's 4-2 win at Aston Villa.

"I know where he’s going to play it straight to the back post, so I pulled away from the defender and got a good finish. Obviously, starting today, I was really happy to do my bit for the team. We got a win today as well so I’m really pleased."

With a big run-in of games to come, Iheanacho says City cannot rest in their pursuit of points.

"We need to do a bit more," he added. "It’s a good performance, but we need to give more, running forward and back, challenging for first balls and second balls, winning battles… there’s a lot of things to work on, but hopefully it’s good momentum for the next games."
