The half-way stage of the Barclays Women’s Super League campaign brings about the winter transfer window, and the arrival of Japanese attacker Momiki, who joined the Foxes this week after finishing the recent season with Swedish outfit Linköpings FC.

In a first sit-down interview with the Club, the 27-year-old outlined her excitement upon signing the contract, and an eagerness to get going and begin the next stage of her career in Leicester blue.

“I’m so excited to sign for the Club,” Momiki announced. “It makes me feel very excited to be here at King Power Stadium and I just want to start playing as quickly as possible.

An excitement for the future is what brought Yuka Momiki to Leicester.

“I really love football, so I want the fans to see how happy I am to be here, and I can’t wait to see them. Before I came here, I went to the training facility and met all the players who are really nice.

“I’ve spoken with the Manager, and he has a really good passion and vision for this project, and that’s why I wanted to come here, and I’m excited to work with him.

“The Club has specific goals, and also specific plans to succeed and everyone follows this ambition, and I like the philosophy that they’ve had.”

I want to improve my abilities so I can’t wait to get started. I want to gain trust from team-mates, supporters, and all the staff.

With over 200 appearances at club level, spanning over three continents, the skilful winger becomes the second Japanese international to join the Club, after the announcement of Saori Takarada’s arrival last month.

Currently eighth in the top tier of English football, City’s new no.29 explained how it has always been her dream to play in this country, and that she hopes her attributes can lead to a successful end to 2023/24.

Yuka Momiki won the AFC Women's Club Championship in 2019.

“They’ve been doing well, and have improved this season, playing well against top teams and getting points, so I’m happy and want to help out for the rest of the season,” Momiki continued.

“I’d say I’m skilful, intelligent and can bring imagination to the team; I like to play in the no. 10 position. England is the best country to play football, and this is my dream to be here so I’m really proud of myself.

“But also, I want to improve my abilities so I can’t wait to get started. I want to gain trust from team-mates, supporters, and all the staff. I also want to score goals and assist as many as I can so that we can finish the year on a high.”
