Scott Taylor's Leicester City shirt

Links With The Past: Scott Taylor's League Cup Final Shirt

Club Historian John Hutchinson takes a look at one of the League Cup winning shirts from Leicester City's 1997 triumph.
More on this story...

This shirt was worn by midfielder Scott Taylor at Wembley in the 1997 League Cup Final against Middlesbrough, whose captain was Nigel Pearson. Boro’s side also contained the Brazil international Juninho and the ex-Juventus and Italy international Fabrizio Ravanelli.

The shirt, signed by the cup final squad and manufactured by the Club’s own ‘Fox Leisure’ brand, has been loaned to the Club by collector Rob O’Donnell and is on display in the reception area at King Power Stadium.

Scott came on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw at Wembley when Emile Heskey scored a late equaliser in the 118th minute. However, Scott missed the victorious replay at Hillsborough due to injury when Leicester City lifted the trophy with Steve Claridge scoring the winning goal in extra-time.

This was Scott’s second Wembley appearance for City, nearly a year after he played in the Play-Off Final victory against Crystal Palace, when he had famously dyed his hair blonde for the occasion. It was also his penultimate game for the Club. A bad knee injury later that year effectively ended his career.

This shirt design is associated with City’s first two seasons back in the Premier League during which, as well as winning the League Cup, the Club finished both seasons in the top half of the table and competed in the UEFA Cup.
