Petty: Saved The Best Until Last In Seagrave

Leicester concluded their home campaign with a 3-0 win on Monday evening as two early goals from Oli Ewing set the tempo at LCFC Training Ground.

After the game, Petty shared his thoughts on the victory, and analysed that the Foxes improved in both boxes compared to previous outings to see out the three points in their penultimate match this term.

“I think we definitely saved the best to last in Seagrave,” the coach stated. “It was a great performance tonight. We started really well like we wanted to and you could see the confidence come back into the players and I'm delighted with a 3-0 win.

“We’ve talked over the course of the season about not being clinical enough in either box and at times the xG of the games show we should’ve been on top but we haven’t been.

“Today you saw in the first five minutes two really good pieces of skill from Will [Alves] and good finishes from Oli [Ewing] which is what we needed, to stick the ball in the back of the net and keep it closed at the other end.”

Climbing away from bottom spot with a convincing win over the Potters, Petty also talked about the main ambition within the Academy, developing young individuals who have continued to be involved with the First Team over the course of the season.

“We’re still developing the players,” the coach continued. “I know there’s some that have been with the First Team, but they’re still young and learning and it’s our job as staff to keep their feet on the ground and keep them being ruthless.

“We want to keep the habits good in training and as you saw it was a brilliant performance tonight and if we’d had more of that during the season, then we’d be higher up the table.

“We would’ve liked to score a few more but to come in with a clean sheet was really important for the team and 3-0 was a great result in Seagrave and it gives everyone a lift.”

'A Very Strong Performance Tonight'

Ben Petty reacts to a convincing PL2 win for Leicester City's Development Squad in Seagrave.

Midfielders Will Alves and Sammy Braybrooke were the creators of Monday’s goals, and the coach spoke about the importance of having them back within the team, and explains how the team has had to work around several long-term injuries.

City’s season comes to its conclusion on Friday 26 April when Leicester travel to Rush Green Stadium in London to take on West Ham United, who are battling Spurs for top spot in PL2.

Petty added: “What you’ve got to remember is that we’ve been without a lot of players over the season, and we’ve got the likes of Sammy [Braybrooke], Will [Alves], Oli [Ewing] and Chris [Popov] coming back.

“We were without Tom Wilson-Brown and Harvey Godsmark-Ford tonight so really we haven’t had our best players in the team, but there were younger players out there which make it even more pleasing.”
