Beating Southampton by five goals on Tuesday was some statement, blowing a promotion rival out of the water in style. The 26-year-old admitted that the victory felt big, not just in terms of the scoreline, but also what it meant for the title race, sending City four points clear at the top of the Sky Bet Championship.

Leicester's promotion back to the Premier League was confirmed on Friday evening as Leeds United lost at QPR.

Celebrating together with the supporters at the end of the Saints game showed a real connection between the team and fans. Such a turnaround from recent defeats on the road, Choudhury was pleased to be able to reward the Blue Army for sticking by them in some difficult moments, also lifting spirits within the camp.

Speaking before Friday's events Academy graduate commented: “It was amazing, exactly what we needed, to go out there and put on a performance and win the game. We showed how good we are. It’s been tough over the last couple of months and since the New Year.

“That’s what it’s about – winning games and celebrating with the fans. When the tough times come, we need everyone to stick together and help us through and then when the good times are here, we want to celebrate them too.”

City had demonstrated another side to their game to defeat West Bromwich Albion, not just displaying attacking quality, but defensive grit and determination too, epitomised by Choudhury himself.

“The Plymouth one, that hurt the most,” Choudhury, who has captained the side on occasion this season, admitted. “After that, we closed the door on it and the West Brom game felt like a fresh start almost, even though there were only four games left.

“We went out in that game and took that into Tuesday night. We just showed everyone how much we care and we won the game in a different fashion. We definitely want to improve on that; it wasn’t our best performance by a long stretch, but we managed to get over the line with the most important three points.”

We go there with our main focus of winning, picking up three points and finishing it off. Our main goal is to win the title and that’s what we aim to do.

The Foxes head to Preston hoping to close in on the Championship title. Backed by over 5,000 away fans, the 26-year-old wants to finish the job they set out to complete but acknowledged that you cannot take anything for granted in this league.

“All the lads have said that we want to win every game,” he added. “We go there with our main focus of winning, picking up three points and finishing it off. Our main goal is to win the title and that’s what we aim to do.

“It’s far from done yet. I’ve enjoyed every involvement I’ve had throughout the season and hopefully there’s more to come.

“I’m sure it’ll feel like we’re playing in a home away from home. We also want to thank our fans and put on a display for them and finish the season on a real high.

“It’ll be on Sky and when you’ve got nothing to play for, there’s nothing like ruining someone else’s party. So we fully expect them to come out flying and not to roll over whatsoever. They’re a good team.”
