Pearson Welcomes Vardy Return

Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson was full of praise for striker Jamie Vardy after he completed a remarkable journey from non-league to the Barclays Premier League on Sunday.
The 27-year-old forward, who has shaken off a thigh injury that ruled him out of the season opener, replaced Jeff Schlupp in the second half of a 1-1 draw with Arsenal to make his top-flight bow – a little over two years since he was playing for Fleetwood Town in the Conference.

Nigel Pearson and his team were aware of Vardy’s talents thanks to his goal scoring exploits in non-league, and believed in him enough to bring him to King Power Stadium in the summer of 2012.

The Sheffield-born striker took a season to settle into life as a Championship player, but with a determination and work ethic to match his undeniable talent all on show last season, Vardy took the league by storm.

His 16 goals helped the Foxes storm to the title, and after making his Premier League debut, manager Nigel Pearson said with a smile about his striker: “You could see the impact he can make in terms of what he gave to the team.

“We replaced pace for pace, Vardy for Schlupp, but also there was an excitement and a buzz from the crowd because there is an expectancy of our offensive players to put opposing teams under huge stress and I like that about us.

“He’s certainly in my mind got the credentials to be a real pest for us but to also score goals and that’s what we’ll need this season, we’ll need to score enough goals.

“So far we’ve not probably had the reward that out performances have warranted but having said that we’ve played three very good sides – it’s about reflecting in a balanced way.”
