Pearson: A Missed Opportunity

City boss Nigel Pearson felt his side had enough chances to claim all three points as they fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of Peterborough United at London Road.

The result brought to an end a fantastic run of five npower Championship victories in a row for the Foxes, who will now turn their attentions to Tuesday night's FA Cup with Budweiser clash against Huddersfield Town at King Power Stadium.

Ben Marshall fired City into a second half lead in front of almost 5,000 away fans, but despite a host of chances for the visitors, late strikes from Davide Petrucci and Grant McCann gave Posh the win.

“It’s a poor result for us,” Pearson said after the match.

“We had enough chances to win it - it was a game of chances at both ends.

“We’ve had 20 attempts today – I’d have been disappointed with a draw, but to lose it, I’m obviously not very happy. It’s a missed opportunity for us.

“Once they got the equaliser they showed a bit more grit and determination than us I’m disappointed to say.

“I’m not happy about that, but I can’t say I’ve had to say that too many times, it’s not typical of us.”

In a scrappy game at times, the Foxes came close to adding to their lead, but some determined defending from the hosts gave them a platform to mount a spirited fightback.

A frustrated Pearson added: “For the most part it was a pretty untidy game, and we didn’t show enough quality.

“I felt we still created opportunities to win the game though.

“You can talk all you like about decisions one way or the other, but the bottom line for me is looking at my own team’s performance first and foremost.

“I thought today, having got ourselves in front in a tough game, deservedly in front I think, we didn’t do enough to go on and win the game or even get something out of it, and that is something that is disappointing.

“It’s a missed opportunity. I thought Peterborough did well today, but I’m disappointed with our performance.”

Striker Chris Wood missed the game through injury, but the manager revealed he is optimistic of a short spell on the sidelines for the New Zealand international.

He added: “He’s picked up an injury and so was unavailable today.

“He just picked up a knock in training. It’s his lower limb, so hopefully he’ll be okay.

“He’s not going to be out for too long, and hopefully he’ll be back very soon.”
