As Leicester City resume their Premier League campaign at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, Danny Drinkwater says the squad are eager to test themselves against some of the division’s best.

Chelsea are among a host of teams fighting it out for the top places in the division and boast plenty of quality within their ranks, as the Foxes discovered in the EFL Cup earlier this season.

City were edged out 4-2 after extra-time at King Power Stadium that night but Drinkwater is eager to get back out on the pitch and secure all three points with a performance that resembles the ones seen from Claudio Ranieri’s men in the Champions League.

The Foxes have yet to find the form in the league that saw them storm to the title last term, but with the stage set for them at Stamford Bridge, Drinkwater wants to build on back-to-back clean sheets from their previous two games.

“It’ll be a tough game,” Drinkwater told LCFC TV. “We know what kind of team they are. They’ve got a squad full of high quality. It’s a great stadium to play your football in and our last time there was positive, so I’m sure everyone is looking forward to it.

“Some players have been away and some have rested so hopefully we’ll be ready for the weekend.
“It’s a tight knit stadium so the fans feel on top of you and it’s Chelsea too – one of the biggest clubs in England, so it’s a great place to play your football.”

The last time the Foxes visited Stamford Bridge was last season’s finale, when they arrived as the newly crowned league champions. The match ended 1-1, with Drinkwater on the scoresheet with an excellent long-range strike to secure a late draw for City.

Now Drinkwater is equally as determined to pick up a result and insists it’s down to the players to get the performance right on the day, no matter the preparation.

He added: “We just need to kind of find what we’re doing in the Champions League and mirror it into the league. Obviously it’s still early in the season and we’ve not played many games.

“Stuff is going to change and we just need to find ways on the pitch of how to win the games. You can put preparations into different games but it’s up to us as players to find a result.

“As players you just have to look to your next 90 minutes. Saturday is a massive.”
