Nugent Feeling Confident
Two wins out of their opening three fixtures have seen The Foxes shoot up the table in the early stages of the season, and they will be targeting a first home victory of the campaign against Lee Clark’s Birmingham City to keep that form going.
Nugent got off the mark himself this season with a well-taken penalty in the 2-1 Capital One Cup win at Wycombe Wanderers, but is certain that the team can put in the kind of performances in the coming weeks that help see him add to that total.
He told Foxes Player ahead of the big match: “I’ll take that all season – playing badly and winning games. The performances aren’t there currently, but we’re picking three points up and we don’t mind. I’m sure in the next couple of games we’ll find our feet and start scoring a few more goals and kill teams off.
“I’m getting there. I’m not 100% fit but in these next games I’m sure I’ll get there and start getting the goals. You’ve got to work hard in training and aim to get in the games and the score the goals.
“The results have been brilliant, it’s just the Leeds game at home that was a bit boring and nothing really happened in that. We got the three points in all the other games but it’s a good sign if you’re playing badly and getting points in games.
“It does feel good going into games knowing that we haven’t been beaten yet – it gives you that confidence, especially when you’re playing well and still winning.
“We just want to keep on going and I’m sure we’ll get the performances going sooner rather than later.”
The 28-year-old former England international also feels that this early season form is down to the squad have benefitting from last season’s Championship experience, adding: “It was a great learning curve last year, after the play-offs it was hard to take, but we will come back fighting to get in the Premier League and get to that next stage.
“We’ve had a good start and we need to keep this form going for the whole season with no `slip-ups.
“Last year we were playing brilliantly at the start of the season and losing games, so it’s a change for us to play badly and win games. If it continues we’ll be up there at the end of the season.”
