Birch's Run A Success
The Club legend, who has been with Leicester City for over 40 years, started his run back in 1981, and has continued ever since – a period that has seen him raise over £1million for dozens of charities.
It was once again a superhuman effort from the Birch, who fought through serious back problems to make it to the end of the 90 minutes, but he admitted he was relieved to see this year’s fundraising exploits come to an end before kick-off.
“If anybody out there has got a new back they’d like to lend me then I’d be very grateful,” joked Birch, who battled through the pain barrier continue his incredible fundraising.
“We won’t know the full amount raised until later in the week but whatever the total is, it’s going to be significant.
“It was a great effort by all involved and I’d like to thank everyone that helped in the organising, taking part, volunteering and all those that donated.
“I’ve had to half jog and half walk. But it’s not about that; it’s about the money raised, and all the people who took part donated a lot of money - most of the people in the stadium donated too.”
Fundraising events for the LCFC Foxes Foundation this season will raise money for partner charities including:
The Lord Mayor of Leicester’s Stroke Appeal
The Silver Star Diabetes Appeal
Family support charity Home-Start
The Alzheimer’s Society – supporting Leicestershire services
The Foundation for the Welfare of the Mentally Ill Children of Thailand
